The
Nigeria Poultry Project
supported by
Hope for Nigeria
Saskatchewan
In November 2006, a Nigerian minister, Isaac
Akiyomo, came to Saskatchewan. While visiting, he told of the plight
of rural Nigerians who cannot borrow money to get any farming
operations started. Poultry farmer and supporter of CVMCanada’s Sierra
Leone Poultry Project, Charles Goossen, had the idea that perhaps a
similar project would work in Nigeria.
“If anyone has material
possessions
and sees his brother in need but
has no pity on him, how can the love
of God be in him?”
-1 John 3:17
WHO WE ARE
Hope for Nigeria Saskatchewan is a committee of five members, all of
whom are either currently active in the poultry business or have been
in the past, and are committed to raising funds and managing the
Nigeria Poultry Project. CVMCanada, in collaboration with a self help
group of Christian Nigerians (the Mennonite Brethren Charity
Organization, MBCO) and Christian Veterinarians Nigeria (CVN),
is helping to oversee the project. In August 2007, Charles and Conrad
Van Dijk (Executive Director, CVMCanada) made an investigative trip to
Nigeria to meet with local Nigerians, locate suppliers of chicks and
feed,
and investigate the market for eggs and/or poultry. Further
investigative trips have been made by Charles and plans continue to
form.
WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT
The present goal of Hope for Nigeria is to assist poor families in
Nigeria to establish and operate small, successful poultry farms.
Follow the Nigeria Poultry Project
as it grows, allowing Nigerian farming families to earn income for
themselves through raising poultry!
