Christian Veterinary Mission Canada
Serving Canadian Christian Veterinary Professionals

About

History

In 1977 Conrad VanDijk met Dr. Leroy Dorminy the founder of CVM USA at a AVMA meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.  Taking inspiration from Dr. Dorminy, Dr. Vandijk started promoting CVM USA to fellow Canadian veterinarians, students and technicians, getting them involved in going on short term mission trips around the world.

It was then in 1990 that Dr. VanDijk was asked to be on the CVM USA advisory board of which he was until 1997.  In this time Dr. VanDijk started meeting with Dr. Don Barnum and Dr. Gary Partlows from OVC, having monthly meetings to discuss Christian Veterinary Mission business. From these meetings Christian Veterinary Mission Canada was started with its first charter developed in 1995.  From here the first board was elected and Dr. Devin Hunt served as coordinator from 1997 - 2002.

It was again that Dr. VanDijk started to create greater vision for CVMC and was the first Executive Director serving from 2002 until 2012.  In this time the chicken project in Sierra Leone became a prominent focus for how CVMC served. This project still continues today with Dr. VanDijk as a separate organization.

In 2013 Dr. Ed Neufeld became the acting Executive Director.  His focus has been to serve the VETNET team in Mongolia, a project that was selected in 2000 as a choice mission to send Canadian veterinarians. He has also been active with the University of Calgary Veterinary College and professionals across Western Canada.

But 2015 is a year of change for CVMC.  CVMC has decided to come under the umbrella of CRISTA Ministries. With this change we will now work in collaboration with CVM USA. Dr. Kit Flowers, president of CVM USA along with the Canadian Advisory Board will be developing CMVC to further serve christian Canadian veterinarians.
